Why this programme
Eight days built for people who need working knowledge of the South African market, not a sightseeing trip with a lecture attached.
The market
South Africa is the gateway to a market of more than a billion people, and a fellow BRICS nation. You study its macro-economics, its trade position, and how business is actually done.
The faculty
Modules and institutional visits with Wits Business School, the South African Supplier Diversity Council, the SABC and the Innovation Hub, taught by people who run these institutions.
The enterprise
Township SMME field visits, a cooking class run by a local enterprise, and the supplier diversity machinery that opens corporate supply chains to small business.
The eight days
Sun 7 February: arrival
Arrival in Johannesburg and a welcome dinner in Sandton, the richest square mile in Africa.
Mon 8 February: Soweto
Vilakazi Street and the Hector Pieterson Museum in Soweto, with a traditional welcome lunch at Sakhumzi.
Tue 9 February: academic day
A full academic day at Wits Business School: the economics of South Africa, Africa and hair, SMME development, and supplier diversity, closing with a panel discussion and a traditional braai.
Wed 10 February: media and enterprise
The SABC, the Innovation Hub, and a cooking class run by a township SMME.
Thu 11 February: supplier diversity
The Supplier Diversity Council learning academy, then field visits to township SMMEs as a driver of growth and jobs.
Fri 12 to Sun 14 February: Pilanesberg
The Cradle of Humankind, a UNESCO World Heritage site, then two nights in a tented camp inside the Pilanesberg: game drives, the Big Five, and a bush braai under the stars. Departure from OR Tambo on Sunday 14 February.
